Client: E&P company
Industry: Oil & Gas
Asset: Oil production platform
Location: Australia
Year: 2024

Challenge

A client requested the refurbishment and recertification of a lattice boom crane on its oil production platform to facilitate the decommissioning process in 2025.

Solution

Axess Australia was engaged to carry out the required work. After conducting a thorough condition assessment, a detailed maintenance action plan was developed. Following that, a multi-skilled team was mobilised on-site to complete the extensive crane refurbishment and recertification works.

The scope of work included replacement of wire ropes, electrical troubleshooting, slew bolts replacement, diesel engine maintenance, non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections for structural integrity, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of the crane boom, function tests at 100% Safe Working Load (SWL), Safe Load Indicator (SLI) calibration, replacement of cooling system components, hydraulic hoses replacement, supply of parts, and reverse engineering of parts no longer available off the shelf.

Results

The complex project, which required a multidisciplined approach, was successfully completed on time and within budget, thanks to excellent cooperation with the client.

“We are pleased to have completed another project with the client. This marks one of the most significant offshore crane repairs that we have undertaken in Australia. It underscores our commitment to safety, efficiency, and reliability,” Vitor Mascarenhas, Project Manager at Axess Australia said.
