MOLDE, Norway, June 10, 2024 – Axess Technologies has secured a contract with Prysmian – world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry – for the RWE-owned Sofia Offshore Wind Farm offshore United Kingdom (UK).

Sofia Offshore Wind Farm is located on Dogger Bank, 195 kilometers from the nearest point on the UK’s north east coast. Prysmian is responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of an HVDC export cable system over 220 km long that will connect Sofia’s offshore converter station with the onshore converter station in Teesside.

This contract involves a mock-up trial and pull-in of the two export cables into the offshore converter platform, as well as support with their termination and testing.

Axess Technologies is managing the project from its offices in Molde and Oslo, Norway, and working closely with Axess’ Singapore and UK offices.

In Q4 2023 and Q2 2024, the Singapore team supplied and installed the material handling equipment to perform the mock-up trial at the offshore platform fabrication yard in Batam, Indonesia. Subsequently, during the execution phase, the UK team will be offering support in logistics, procurement, and local manpower supply, while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

The Sofia Offshore Wind Farm will be one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world as well as one of the farthest from shore. With 100 turbines delivering a total capacity of 1.4 GW, the wind farm is projected to supply electricity to 1.2 million homes in the UK once fully operational.
